Portuguese-style formal livery of the assistant coachman.
The postillion was the man who road on a mule or horse alongside the front pair of horses in the team and helped to guide the vehicle.
Uniform consists of a red cloth swallow-tailed coat with wide fancy polychrome stripes; red wool trousers; blue waistcoat with a silver stripe; black, cocked hat, trimmed in silver with a blue and white cockade and high-top boots |
